How did geography play an important role in the development of Rome?

Well if you look at where Rome is (Italy)it is surrounded by water.This allows for many sea ports used for trade and things like that.At the top,it is attached to land which allows for trade that way.Essentially,the Roman Empire was based off of trade.Ihope that helps at least a little
