4x + 10= 2x - 6
Subtract 2x on both sides
4x - 2x + 10 = 2x - 2x - 6
4x - 2x + 10 = -6
2x + 10 = -6
Subtract 10 on both sides
2x + 10 - 10 = -6 - 10
2x = -6 - 10
2x = -16
x = -8
