They sensationalize issues because it is what viewers want and it makes for more exciting headlines. The American public turns on the news when they see and hear an exciting headline. For instance the news has made a superstar out of Donald Trump because his sensational comments make people watch. The news exagerates the comments and plays them over and over to get viewers attention.
